Mentorship is of the utmost importance at every stage of one’s career, but especially during residency, when early careers are formed. Whether it’s to discuss acclimating to neurology rotations early in PGY2 year, applying to fellowship later during residency, or anything in between, a good mentor will be an invaluable resource. We take mentorship very seriously at North Shore – LIJ. Based on shared interests and backgrounds, each incoming resident is paired with a member of the faculty that has volunteered their time to serve as a mentor. Mentors and residents meet quarterly to discuss questions, address concerns, and provide advice through all stages of training. A broad array of topics are typically discussed, including fellowship applications, career development, research/scholarly activity opportunities, work-life balance, and diversity in healthcare. With a strong focus on mentorship, we ensure residents can achieve their goals during training and beyond.
Sincerely,
Natasha Hameed, Neurology Residency Mentorship Director
